BAYS (Travel) coaches support players in Grades 4–12 as they grow in a more competitive, age-appropriate soccer environment. Coaches play an important role in player development, team culture, and communication
About The Role
BAYS teams are led by 2–3 volunteer coaches with support from WUSC Program Directors, Age Group Coordinators, and professional coaching staff. All BAYS coaches must complete the standard coaching requirements, along with a BAYS Coach Application each season.
Travel coaches lead weekly practices, guide players on game day, communicate with families, and help create a positive, development-focused team environment. Coaches also follow BAYS league procedures for scheduling, game-day operations, and rescheduling when needed.
WUSC provides detailed practice plans, preseason training, league rules, and ongoing support so coaches always have the guidance and resources they need.
Time commitment:
- Grades 4–12: 1–2 weeknight practices + Saturday games
Experience required: None
Application: Required each season
Background checks: Yes; annual clearance required
Season Length: 10 weeks

Application And Selection Process
Each year, WUSC’s Board of Directors forms a BAYS (Travel) Committee to review coaching applications and appoint coaches for Grades 4–12. Every head and assistant coach applicant—new or returning—must submit the application by the published deadline.
The committee reviews all applications and may request a brief follow-up conversation in age groups with multiple interested coaches.
General application timeline
- Application deadline: Mid-June
- Decisions finalized: Late-June
- Coach notifications: Early July
- Team notifications: Early July
Coaches are assigned only after player placement is complete.
What the committee considers
The BAYS Committee evaluates several factors to ensure strong coaching coverage across the program, including:
- Prior coaching experience (In-Town or BAYS)
- Approach to player development
- Alignment with WUSC values and expectations
- Ability to meet practice and game commitments
- Overall program needs and number of applicants per age group
Assignments are made to support players, teams, and the long-term health of the program.
Support You'll Receive
