WUSC announces 2025 award winners
Wellesley United Soccer Club is proud to recognize players, coaches, referees, and student leaders whose contributions embody the values that define our soccer community. Each of these award recipients has demonstrated leadership, service, sportsmanship, and a genuine love for the game. We are honored to celebrate our 2025 award winners.
Dave Shultz Coaching Award
This award is presented annually to honor volunteer coaches in our In-Town and BAYS (Travel) program who uphold the standards set by former WUSC coach, board member, and president Dave Shultz. The Board of Directors is proud to recognize the coaches whose leadership and dedication continue Dave’s legacy and strengthen our youth soccer community.

WUSC Referee Recognition Awards
These awards honor high school seniors for their contributions as referees and mentors to younger players. Their service has made a meaningful impact on the quality and consistency of officiating across WUSC.

Judi Lucarelli Referee Award
This award honors the legacy of Judi Lucarelli, who served more than 20 years as WUSC’s Referee Coordinator and was instrumental in establishing the referee mentoring program that has helped develop generations of young officials. Over six years, Matt has been a highly competent and dependable referee, consistently taking on extra games and supporting younger referees. His leadership and professionalism exemplify the standards of this award.

Douglas Walker Award
The Douglas Walker Scholarship honors the memory of Douglas Walker, a 1983 Wellesley High School graduate and varsity soccer player who deeply appreciated the pure beauty of the game. This scholarship is awarded to a WHS varsity soccer player who demonstrates Doug’s defining qualities: being a true team player, an enthusiastic and supportive teammate, and someone who genuinely loves the game.

Diane Mullahy Scholarship
Endowed by the family of Diane Mullahy, a 1981 WHS graduate and one of Wellesley’s earliest girls’ soccer players, this scholarship honors a WHS senior girl who reflects Diane’s enthusiasm for soccer, love for her team, and commitment to giving back.

Darrien Tan Award
This award recognizes high school seniors who have given back to WUSC as coaches and mentors, particularly through TOPSoccer, our inclusive soccer program originally launched by Darrien Tan. The award honors students who demonstrate Darrien’s commitment, compassion, and dedication to helping younger players grow.

WUSC is a 100 percent volunteer-run, community-based organization, and our ability to serve more than 1,600 players each year depends on the dedication of people like these coaches, referees, seniors, and student leaders.
